Media Unit Plan
For this project, I worked with a partner (Natasha Athey) to create a unit of 10 lesson plans (8 lessons teaching new information, 2 lessons reviewing information and assessing student learning) focused on history in the southern Appalachian mountains. The unit addressed standards from Third Grade Social Studies, Language Arts, Math, and Science, with individual lessons covering topics such as culture of the Appalachian mountains, Daniel Boone (who he was, what he did, why he was important), settlers in the Appalachians, the Wilderness Road, and reading and making maps. Each lesson plan was created based on the 5 E lesson plan format (Engagement, Exploration, Explanation, Elaboration, and Evaluation), although not every lesson plan included all five Es. The lesson plans also incorporated the use of different types of media and technology such as books, videos, websites, and programs such as canva, smore, padlet, "Fakebook," and Shadow Puppet.
